new era began on 15th October 2001 for Wigan's most famous family firm with
the ending of a 103-year-old tradition.
Since Victorian times William Santus & Co. Ltd. have been selling Uncle
Joe's Mint Balls along with other traditional sweets from the towns market hall
but a new millennium has signalled a new departure for us, and one that has
signalled an expansion on the retail side.
The market stall has moved across town to bigger shop premises in Crompton
Street.
Not only does UNCLE JOE'S EMPORIUM offer more space but it is now in a more
prominent position.
Uncle Joe's Emporium is like stepping back in time with over 140 large weigh out jars full of a vast array of both traditional and modern sweets filling a full wall of oak shelves. Old favourites such as Uncle Joe's Mint Balls, Pear Drops, Humbugs, Sarsaparilla Drops, Menthol & Eucalyptus, Pontefract Cakes, Toasted Tea-Cakes etc. can be found along with more modern sweets such as Chocolate Nibbles, Jelly Babies, Tiny Tots, Chocolate Eclairs Liquorice Torpedoes, Rainbow Drops, Kola Cubes etc. Gifts and souvenirs are also available from the emporium such as model vans, t-shirts, keyrings, golf balls, umbrella's, teddy bears, hampers, gift sets and much more. Many of the hampers and gift sets can be 'pre-ordered' to include any desired products to make them 'extra special for that special someone'.
 For every occasion such as Christmas, Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Valentines Day, Halloween and Bonfire Night etc. many special gifts can be found, both adults and children can benefit from the fantastic array of goods available in the Uncle Joe's Emporium. Themed days often offering special discounts are often a part of the emporium - even special visits from Uncle Joe have been known!
